    Mini-Rockets

    Available for potty-trained children ages 3 & up, Mini-Rockets lessons will cover a range of skills from beginner through swim team levels, starting by building comfort and confidence in the water and progressing to stroke development with a goal of transitioning to the swim team (and hopefully even participating in a meet this season!)

    An active CRCR Membership is required for swim lesson registration. If you have not already joined the Church Run Pool for the current season, please contact Church Run Community Recreation for membership information.

    Levels

    Comfort: 8:15 - 9:00am

    focus is on build comfort and confidence in the water; designed for very beginners

    Skills to accomplish:

    Unassisted Skills:

    • Travel along wall when unable to stand
    • Blow bubbles
    • Fully submerge face
    • Push off wall to instructor (possibly with streamline)
    • Wall kick (Red light, Green light is great for this)
    • Introduce arms on the wall (“ice cream scoops”)
    • Bobs on the wall
    • Jump from the side of pool to instructor

    Assisted Skills:

    • Front float (transition to unassisted)
    • Back Float (transition to unassisted)
    • Back kick (hugging kickboard)
    • Kick with a board with decent technique (transition to unassisted)

    Swim: 9:15 - 10:00am

    focus is on combining kick & arms to create movement

    Skills to accomplish:

    Unassisted Skills

    • Front kick w/ board
    • Catch-up freestyle w/ board
    • Push off in streamline and kick
    • Demonstrate backstroke arm movement
    • Jump in pool independently from instructor

    Assisted Skills:

    • Streamline backstroke kick
    • Retrieve toys underwater

    Beast Mode: 9:15 - 10:00am

    focus is on swimming movements

    Skills to accomplish:

    Unassisted Skills:

    • Streamline backstroke kick
    • Freestyle swim (with breathing)
    • Introduce backstroke arms (eventually full stroke)
    • Retrieve toys underwater (deeper end)
    • Jump into water and swim

    By (ideal) end of program

    • Legal Freestyle w/ streamline push off and rotary breathing - whole lap
    • Legal Backstroke - whole lap

    FAQs:

    Who can sign up? All Church Run Pool members can register. 

    When/Where do I pay? Payment is due at time of online registration.

    What days are the lessons? Lessons are on 1 week long, 4 mornings a week- usually Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday -OR- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, depending on when the swim meet is that week. Your swimmer will come all four mornings.

    Important note: Certain weeks, lessons will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday while the other weeks will be on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. This is because of the meet schedule for the swim team. Please make sure you check this before signing up for lessons.

    Can I sign up for multiple sessions of the same or different level? YES! At the end of each weekly session, your child will be presented with a certificate that will have the skills met checked off. You can use that to help guide you in selecting the appropriate next session level or you can discuss with us prior to booking.

    Can parents be on deck during lesson? Unfortunately, no.  Only swimmers, coaches, and lifeguards can be on deck in the mornings while the pool is closed to membership.
